Drink more water
Your body is mostly comprised of water, so it makes sense to constantly refresh it. Drinking more water aids hydrated skin and may even motivate you to eat healthier. Keep track of your water with a water bottle at work or add fresh fruit like lemons or cucumbers to make it taste better.
Get more sleep
Only 63.8 percent of Nevadans are getting a healthy amount of sleep every night. If you aren’t averaging seven hours a night, you need to hit the hay earlier. If you get distracted by your phone at night, place it in another room or take a digital detox at least two hours before bed. Blue light can distract your brain from settling down, which inhibits a good night of sleep.
Mindfulness
One of the biggest trends of 2018, mindfulness can boost memory and reduce stress. According to the American Psychological Association, mindfulness meditation can also decrease depressive symptoms. If you’re new to mindfulness, an app like Headspace or Calm can guide you while tracking progress.
Eat healthier
This is one New Year’s resolution that should be on everyone’s radar. Whether you already consider yourself a healthy eater or could use some room for improvement, you can always incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet. Try swapping out one fatty meat per week with a healthy meat substitute like jackfruit.
Exercise more frequently
Whether you’re in the snow-covered northern parts of the state or basking in the sun down south, get outside this January for some exercise. You need at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week to stay healthy. Try Nordic skiing for a heart-rising exercise or beach volleyball for a group activity.
Understand your medical status
Having a solid comprehension of your health is key to living your best life. Schedule an appointment with a primary care doctor using your qualified health plan through Nevada Health Link to understand your baseline health. Afterward, get age-appropriate screening tests done. Some preventative tests, such as pap smears, may be covered at full cost by your insurance.
