Winter Outdoor Activities in Nevada!

There are the traditional ways to occupy yourself during the winter months in Nevada, such as: movies, board games, reading, puzzles, video games, etc. Although these would normally only be our go-to’s during the chilly months, many of us have been doing this for nearly a year without pause, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic and stay at home orders. It’s difficult to keep from going stir-crazy when our options for healthy distractions have been trimmed yet again.

Luckily, Nevada is a state that is constantly praised for its ability to entertain not only its visitors, but its residents, too. From Lake Tahoe to Lake Mead, outdoor recreation in Nevada never disappoints.

Winter Outdoor Activities in Nevada:

  • Snowshoe in Tahoe Meadows. Or maybe sledding is more your style? Or snowmobiling? Tahoe Meadows has something for everyone!
  • Bird watch at Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge. Bring the coffee and hot chocolate, and soak in the calm effect of the peaceful refuge. Located in Amargosa Valley, less than two hours outside of Las Vegas, this refuge still has much to offer during the winter season.
  • Ski Mount Rose. It’s the local favorite – there’s no place quite like Mount Rose, with a hard to beat location (just North of Lake Tahoe) and unparalleled, beautiful scenery. Just make sure to review their new COVID-19 guidelines before your visit.
  • Hike around Mount Charleston. Nevadans can also enjoy snowy recreation activities. You know the ones: snowshoeing, sledding, building snowmen. Don’t forget to review their website for closures before visiting.
  • Explore the Valley of Fire State Park. This unique state park just outside of Las Vegas boasts incredible red rock views. It’s open 365 days a year, and, bet you didn’t know, is a popular filming location! You’ll understand why when you visit.
  • Hike (and then relax) at Gold Strike Hot Springs. Located near Boulder City, this difficult 6-mile hike gives you the perfect excuse to unwind once you reach the hot springs. Not to mention the unbeatable views once you reach the Colorado River.
  • Bike the trails around Lake Mead. Camping is another common use for this versatile National Recreation Area. And, the sunrises and sunsets are said to be spectacular at any time of the year, making it an exceptional location for photography.
